I dunno. I sorta loved John Carter. It wasn't a flawless interpretation of A Princess of Mars, but it was hella fun anyway. I laughed a great deal more than I expected to, which was nice. I cried a little, too, but I *always* cry during movies.

Also, Caesar and Marc Antony! WHAT. I totally need to rewatch Rome now.

If I see one more reviewer say that John Carter is derivative of Star Wars or Avatar or Indiana Jones or whatfuckingever, I'm going to find a way to fly out to each of them and beat them solidly about the ears with every single book in the Barsoom series.

I was thinking about Mexico this evening, which meandered into thinking about Guanajuato. This leads me to tonight’s question:

What is the most horrific story that you’ve ever read? Something that really stuck with you. A story that is still wedged deep in your subconscious that still burbles up nightmares on occasion.

One of mine: the Next in Line by Ray Bradbury.
